Kenya’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) has acquired six Bayraktar TB2 drones from Türkey, marking a significant step in enhancing its military capabilities. This acquisition follows a defense cooperation agreement signed in 2023 between Türkiye and Kenya, covering training, maintenance, and technology transfer, These advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were spotted in a military hangar in Kenya, displaying the Kenyan flag on their inverted V stabilators.

The Bayraktar TB2 drones, priced between $2-$5 million each, are produced by Baykar, a defense company belonging to the family of Selcuk Bayraktar, the son-in-law of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Bayraktar serves as the company’s chief technical officer.

Bayraktar TB2 is a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) equipped for reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strikes, Kenya’s use of these drones aligns with its efforts to improve counterterrorism operations, similar to its neighbor Somalia.
