The UN’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) is biased and dominated by the Western colonial powers, South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocide is very strong, but the sad reality is politics drives ICJ rulings, not facts…
Nothing less than the full concept of international law will be on trial this week in The Hague. The whole world is watching, South Africa’s case would need 8 votes from those judges, and is unlikely to get them, as the US government is going to aggressively lobby the other members to vote against the case, or to at least abstain.
And that, crucially, includes a violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention, according to which genocide consists of “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.”It would of course be nice if the ICJ actually ruled based on facts, but politics is in command. And the international political/judicial order is still deeply colonial.
