Troops are still battling al-Shabaab Militia who infiltrated the Mayor’s Headquarters, Attack started with an 3- explosion, followed by suicide attackers. Several explosions were heard since the attack started. Number of people have been rescued.

This is the first ever locally led offensive against alShabaab, and while there is some international support from the US, and Turkey, ATMIS is largely absent and providing MEDEVAC and other minor support.
The Somalia govt deserve credit for the accomplishments thus far, but any discussions of winning, AS on the run, or this being over in a short period of time aren’t dealing with the reality of the situation on the ground – and what is likely to be a difficult 2023 ahead.
