Somalia news

Reports this week have suggested that the Commander of Somalia Elite Forces (Danab Brigade) have been changed Last 7 years, Shortest serving of the 6 Commanders, nevertheless the changes now warrant a discussion on nature of operations of the Somali National Army (SNA)….

Danab Brigade is core group of about 850 Soldiers specially trained by USA defense department and specialists contractors to tackle Somali terror groups (Shabab and Dacish), and created in 2013 during last administration, The Danab Brigade become Somalia’s first real attempt at creating a local solution against terror groups, US Defense Officials indicated in the past it could continue training this elite group at least until 2027, when it could have as many as 3000 soldiers under its label.

Their Training is special Mentored by USA special Troops (Green berets) under US African Command (Africam) funding for their operations come directly to them from Pentagon, this has allowed their swift enactment of programs such as deployment, increase in size, scheduling of training as well as any urgent operations (response).

Except there is one problem, lack of leadership, since this unit was created the names can run as many as the years is has existed:-

-Col Hassan Commandos 2013-14.

-Lt.Col.Yacqub Ahmed Siad 2014-15.

-Col.Ahmed Abdulaahi 2016-19.

-Major Abdirahman Omar (jeniqar) (2019/20.

-Major Ismail Cabdinalik 2020/20.

-Major Ahmed Abdulaahi Nur (Beryare) 2020. This Commanders they have all come and gone.

It is true that in a situation like Somalia, where Shabab militia attempts to filter through every segment of government, constant movement and changes should be norm, it’s also possible that the shift in leadership is for the better: new brooms sweeping better than the olde strokes
