US-trained Somalian government forces have been helping locals topple jihadists after their cruelty incited an uprising, Al-Shabaab, the Somali branch of al Qaeda, are one of the most powerful Islamic State insurgency groups in the world, and the US have been helping the military battle against them for some 16 years…

The US’s campaign has been littered with setbacks for years. However, breakthroughs in the last few months have made the battlefields of Somalia an optimistic spot in the fight on terror, Somali government forces, who are led by 2,000 American-trained fighters called Danab, have recently joined in on uprisings against the 12,000-strong terror group.

The Somali National Army, US-trained Somali Special Forces, and local clan militias, have all banded together to press an offensive against al-Shabaab, With the help of US drones, they have regained 20 towns and 80 villages from the terror group in the last few months – turning the tide on previous stalemates.

This win, encompassed by recapturing of a third of the land previously held by al-Shabaab, emblazoned troops to continue their offensive and recapture two more terrorist strongholds in Somalia, The Danab’s commander Maj. Aydarus Mohamed Hussein said last month: ‘The government is winning the war. I wouldn’t have said it two years ago, but I’d say it now.’
